Get rid of the rainy-day blues with this great kid's clubhouse made of StratoCore® plastic sheets. Suzanne McNeill of Design Originals shows that it's not only fun and easy to make but also portable. Materials:
20" x 30" StratoCore sheets: two red, six brown and three green Brown and silver paint markers 7' black hook-and-loop tape 2 yards cream macrame cord General Cutting Directions To cut StratoCore with a craft knife or board cutter, score along a line or a straightedge. Do not attempt to cut through the StratoCore with the first cut. The score line will be a guide for cutting through the StratoCore with a second cut. Dashed lines on patterns and cutting diagrams indicate where StratoCore is to be folded. For folds, cut through only the first layer. Label each cut piece with a piece of masking tape with a number corresponding to the pattern number (figure A). Assembly To reinforce corners, cut through the top layer of 4"-wide StratoCore pieces to make hinges. Glue three 1 1/2" strips of equally spaced hook-and-loop tape to hinges and playhouse. Glue the loop side to the playhouse and the hook side to the hinge. To reinforce walls, doors, etc., glue pieces of StratoCore to the playhouse's inside seams. Attach roofs and countertops by gluing hook-and-loop tape to the cut edges of the StratoCore (figure B). Finishing Paint designs and lettering on the playhouse with paint markers. To remove painting mistakes, let paint dry to the touch, and scratch it off with your fingernail. If the paint has hardened, use a Teflon scouring pad or a mild paint thinner to remove it (figure C). Cut clubhouse pieces according to the diagram. Use two sheets of red StratoCore to make the roof, adding a roof brace/hinge in the middle. Make two holes in the windows and doors. Thread macrame cord through the holes, and tie knots for handles. Paint designs with markers, and assemble the clubhouse, referring to the assembly diagram. Note: - Materials used in this project are available at craft and home-improvement centers or may be obtained through the manufacturers listed.
- Complete instructions for this clubhouse and other playhouses may be found in "Playhouses With StratoCore" by Donna Thomason, available at most craft centers or directly from Design Originals (information under "Resources").
