    Materials:

    Nylon rope
    .5-liter bottle
    Scissors
    A ruler
    Beans
    Drills and bits
    1/2" vinyl flex-tubing
    Paint pens
    One adult

    1. Cut the flex-tubing into two pieces, one 9" and the other 14" in length (figure A).

    2. Thread the rope through the 14" piece. Make a loop with the tubing and tie it off tightly (figure B).

    3. Thread the rest of the rope through the 9" section (figure C).

    4. Drill a hole in the bottom and top of the bottle about 3/8" or smaller, depending on the size of your rope (figure D). Clip off any rough edges.

    5. Take the cap off the bottle. Starting with the bottom of the bottle, thread the rope through (figure E).

    6. Put some beans inside the bottle. Thread the rope through the cap and replace the cap on the bottle.

    7. With the bottle snug against the tubing, make multiple knots in the end of the rope. Cut off any excess rope.

    8. Decorate with paint pens if desired.

    9. Put your foot through the loop and swing the bottle end around in a circle while skipping over the rope as it passes by. Hint: If you're wearing long pants, you may need to roll the legs up.
    Tips:
    • Have an adult supervise when you use tools, like a drill or scissors.

    • When tying knots, use square knots -- they won't slip.
Products: All products are available at grocery, craft, all-purpose and hardware stores nationwide.

Flex-tubing will be found in the plumbing department at most hardware stores. It is usually clear and comes in multiple diameters.
