Q: Do I need to buy or build a compost bin to create compost in my yard?
A: No, you can just have a pile. The advantages to having a bin are that it remains neater and keeps animals out. To start, use clippings and coffee grounds. Don't use food scraps or you will attract mice, rats and snakes.

Q: I don't have room for a pond, but I would like to create a container water garden for my patio. How do I do it?
A: You will need a tub, galvanized ones look nice, a circulating pump and filters. Don't forget the fish!

Q: My neighbor cleans her terra cotta pots each year before she fills them with new plants. Is this necessary?
A: It does help to prevent spreading of diseases and pests. I suggest cleaning out the dirt first, then using 10% bleach and 90% water solution with a stiff bristled brush.

Q: How do I make the daylilies that I cut from my yard last longer?
A Cut in the morning (plants have more moisture then) with good shears. Have a water bucket ready to put them in right away. Re-cut the stems while under water. Also, use some flower food in your vase. Change your water every couple of days.
