Combine different varieties of cactus for a striking container garden.
|
Just about any houseplant can be featured in a container garden, but people don't always think of cactus, says show host Kim Haworth. Here's how she creates a striking cactus garden: - Prop a wire basket between two bricks on a work surface, and line it with coconut fiber mat..
- Mix sand and fast-draining soil mix in a 1-to-3 ratio with a trowel.
- Fill the lined basket to the half-way mark with the potting mix.
- Using cactus gloves, add cactus, loosening each plant's roots first as you take it from its nursery pot. Set cactus so that they'll hang over the side a bit, and put the tall ones in the middle.
- Add more cactus potting mix until the pot is full.
- Top the surface with decorative stones.
