Actress and avid gardener Beverly Garland loves container gardening and tends more than 200 pots in many different shapes and sizes. Her garden is an eclectic mix that creates a cozy Southern California setting. The advantage of a container garden is that each pot can be tailored to a plant's needs, with exactly the right soil and amounts of moisture and light. The disadvantage is the time it takes to water so many pots in an arid climate. Beverly has converted a tea table into what she calls a "plant high-rise hotel" (figure A). She even has an old bathtub filled to overflowing with colorful blooming plants (figure B). Beverly includes potted plants in her water garden too, setting them above the surface on pedestals so the color of their blooms is reflected in the water (figure C).
