Drip systems come in handy when you have a number of hanging gardens and containers. In our demonstration garden, clear supply lines run from the beams and are interwoven through the chains into the baskets.(figure A) Drip systems are available at nurseries and hardware stores. They require about 30 minutes to install and allow the installation of as many emitters as each basket needs. This should not completely replace deep watering, and on hot summer days baskets may require several deep waterings. Deep watering also allows the moss to retain its green color. The arbor design is completed with the addition of a blue bench beneath the cabinet (figure B). Potted bamboo adds vertical interest on either side of the bench. The shelf at the base of the cabinet is filled with trailing 'Silver Falls' dichondra. The cabinet doors are opened to reveal a display of natural and rescued treasures.
