    Tips

    • Cut a slit down the side of a five-gallon bucket to help control rolled flashing. Thread the flashing through the slit for convenient storage and dispensing.

    • Leave steep and/or high roof work to the pros. Any money that you would save by doing it yourself you may end up spending on doctor's bills.

    • When working on the roof, wear shoes with a soft rubber sole for maximum traction.

    • Secure dish towels to the ends of your ladder with duct tape to protect your siding from scuffs and scratches.

    • Mark the center of your extension ladder with duct tape, and you'll know exactly where to pick it up for easy balancing.

    • An annual treatment of automotive-vinyl protectant will bring the color back to your vinyl shutters.
