A sky with no clouds is a perfect example of dead space, a photographer's no-no. Be sure to zoom in close for a great shot.

DIY Photography host Rick Sammon offers the following tips to improve the quality of your photographs:

    • Take the time to compose carefully, paying special attention to detail and light.

    • Fill the frame, zoom in, and get a tight shot. If you include a lot of sky and there're no clouds, that's dead space -- something you don't want. But that doesn't mean you have to be an in-your-face photographer.

    • Include only those elements in the scene that really tell the story.

    • Add depth and dimension by adding a foreground element (figure A).

    • If you're planning to shoot wildlife, wear clothes that blend with the environment.
