With a specialized calendar-making program such as Calendar Wizard (TM), you can create a personalized calendar using your own digital photos. Pick a theme -- pictures from a vacation, kids and family, pets, etc. In our demonstration, host Rick Sammon created a calendar featuring pictures from a vacation to Cuba.
Calendar Wizard (and similar programs) features a user interface (figure A) that simplifies the process of creating a calendar and offers the user a range of special options.
Here are the steps we followed in creating a calendar using Calendar Wizard: - Open the program, and select the first month for which you want to design a calendar page (e.g., January). A blank calendar page will appear for the month you've selected.
- From the "Edit" menu, choose "Picture," and browse to find the image you want to go with the first calendar-page.
Tip: To simplify this project, first select all of the photos you intend to use in your calendar and place them in a single "calendar" folder (figure B) on your desktop. This will make it easy to find and select your images quickly.
- Once you've selected your first image, simply click "OK" in your edit menu (figure C) to place the image on the calendar page.
- The image will then appear on the display, showing the calendar page and image (figure D).
- You may want to change the background color for the borders around your image. Go back to the "Edit" menu to select a page-background color (figure E).
- In our demonstration, a light-blue shade was selected for the page background for the first image (figure F).
- Repeat this process for all 12 months, personalizing each page as you wish with selected photographs and colors.
- Once you've completed your selections for each month, go back and preview each page to make sure you're happy with the calendar overall. If everything is to your liking, you're ready to print out your calendar pages.
- Your print program should offer you a number of choices such as "print single-sided" or "print double-sided," paper type, etc. In our demonstration, we opted for single-sided pages, printed on premium glossy-photo paper.
Important: Be certain to choose the paper selection in your program that matches the type of paper you'll be using. A mismatched paper selection will result in poor print quality.
- Once you've made all the necessary printing selections, make certain that your printer is turned on and click "OK" or "Print" to print out your pages (figure G).
- After you've printed out your finished pages, you may want to take them to your local copy center to have them spiral-bound (figure H) for a finished look. The spiral binding will give a more professional appearance than simply stapling the pages.
