By adding one small accessory, you can turn an electronic personal-assistant device into a digital camera. Full-color pictures can be viewed on the screen. You can then transfer them to a printer or a computer.

Digital imagery is getting better and more accessible every day, and now you don't even need a computer to enjoy digital photos. Digital-imaging expert Steve Powell explains to DIY Photography host Rick Sammon how easy it is to enjoy digital images with a few of the latest accessories.

You can put the memory card from a digital camera directly into a printer (figure A) and get a glossy photo in a matter of minutes. Each printed page can hold one 8" by 10", two 5" by 7" photos or four smaller pictures. You can even put special borders and templates around your photos to turn them into starbursts, ovals or hearts.

Want to display your photographs? You don't even have to print them out when you have a digital picture frame (figure B). Slide the memory card into the back, and your photos appear on the screen. You can display them one at a time, pressing a button to change photos, or put the frame on slideshow mode to show all the photos on the card in sequence. You can put all your favorite photos onto one memory card or group them according to theme.

What's more, you can send a photo from your picture frame to your grandma's picture frame several states away. The digital picture frame connects directly to the Internet, so you can also use it to check sports scores, get the weather forecast and do research.
