    episode DWSP-205

    (Continued from page 2)

Karl, Angie and Katie build storage boxes for the cabinet and customize the fronts with beadboard. They add corner molding to the tops of the storage boxes for a more finished look, then prime and paint the boxes.

    • Measure the spaces for the storage boxes and sketch a rough design for the boxes. Each box will have a bottom and four sides. Decide which sides – either the front and back or the left and right – will go on the "outside" of the others.

    • Cut and dry-fit the bottom and side panels for the boxes.

Safety Alert Wear safety glasses and use caution when working with a power saw, nail gun or other power-assisted tools.

    • Use wood glue and a nail gun to assemble the boxes (figure A). Nail into the joints from the outside of the box for secure butt joints; make sure all corners are square.

    • Cut beadboard to fit the front panel of each box. Attach the beadboard with glue and nails.

    • Karl gave the boxes a more finished look by adding a strip of corner molding along the top edges. Measure and cut the molding, then attach with glue and nails.

    • Prime and paint the boxes (figure B). Once the paint is dry, attach drawer pulls or other hardware for easy access to the contents

    • Hammer rubber feet into the bottoms of the boxes so they don't scrape the cabinet when pulled out.
