    Theater Curtain Installation Tips:

    • A curtain pattern from a sewing book or from the Internet will ensure a correct cut.

    Safety Alert:

    • Always wear protective eyewear when working with power tools.

    How to Install Theater Curtains:

    • Dawn measures the opening that she wants to cover and she has Amy cut a 2" x 4" to that length. Meanwhile, Dawn uses a pattern from a sewing book to cut her material (figure A).

    • She cuts two long rectangular pieces that will hang as curtains (figure B) and three smaller rectangular pieces with zigzag edges for the valances, cutting the pieces wide enough to hem the edges

    • With a sewing machine, she hems the ends of the pieces so they won’t fray (figure C).

    • After the curtains have a hem, Dawn feeds curtain weights into the bottom edge of the curtains (figure D). This will weigh them down and keep them draping evenly.

    • With a staple gun, she first attaches the long curtains to the 2" x 4", folding the top of the curtain over as she staples (figure E).

    • Then she gathers the zigzag edges of the smaller pieces and staples the ends to the 2" x 4" to make three equal swoops of fabric across the top (figure F).

    • Dawn and Amy screw the 2" x 4" into the ceiling of the theater. Decorative gold rope ties hold the curtain back and are a nice touch in Ron and Dawn’s new home theater.
