Fireplace Installation
1. For wall studs, measure the height of the ceiling and cut two 2x4s to this length minus three inches.
2. For top and bottom plates, cut two 2x4s to the length desired, which should be at least six inches wider than the fireplace itself.
3. Nail frame together with the stud ends butting against the sides of the plates.
4. Screw the frame into the ceiling joists.
5. Next, for the middle frame for the rough opening of the fireplace, choose where the bottom of the fire place will rest. Measure this distance between the two studs and cut a three 2x4s to length.
6. Nail the other 2x4 to the existing studs in the wall level to the middle frame just put in.
7. Nail the third 2x4 between the new studs a couple feet below the ceiling or at least higher than the top of where the fire place will be.
8. Measure and cut a 3/4 inch piece of plywood that will fit like a shelf on the two lower middle plates. Nail the plywood in place.
9. For the rails that the fireplace will screw into, measure from the upper middle plate to the plywood. Cut two 2x4s to length.
10. Attach the two rails parallel to the studs at a distance slightly wider than the fireplace itself.
11. Set the fireplace in and attach it to the rails with screws.
