Bathtub Panel
1. Whenever dealing with new or raw lumber, always square off one end before making measured cuts (figure A).2. For this project, the panel will consist of one large frame divided into three panels.
3. Start by measuring out from the cut end for the long sides of the frame (figure B).
4. Using a chop saw, line up the blade on the mark and then push it through the wood (figure C).
5. Measure, mark and cut for the short ends of the frame.
6. Assemble the large frame. Pick the best looking side to face out. A pocket hole jig allows to easily create strong joints for the frame (figure D).
7. The holes act as guides for your drill bit. Ream as you drill or move the bit up and down to release the built-up sawdust.
8. The grooves left by the bit are at a specific angle to keep the screws from going through the finished side of the frame (figure E).
9. Squeeze wood glue onto the edge of the frame piece and clamp the seam against the board to keep it steady while you attach the two pieces (figure F).
10. When the wood screws into the frame, use the guide holes made by the jig. Attach the two pieces together and create a strong joint (figure G).
11. Measure for the placement of the dividing boards, which will create a three panel look.
12. With the frame complete, trim pieces for the inside of the three panels (figure H). Set your compound miter saw at 45 degrees to make the corner cuts
