Host Amy Matthews tests out different paints and glazes to determine the best topcoat for the walls. Using sample boards, glazes, sponges and brushes she tries out different techniques for applying the glaze.

Materials: glazes foam brushes small buckets rags Sample Glazes 1. Use a sponge to get a nice, even color (figure A). Take a clean, dry cloth and wipe away some of the excess paint, revealing the texture of the wallpaper in relief. 2. Another technique is to dampen the cloth before wiping away the glaze (figure B). This will produce an even lighter result, almost cleaning the raised-up areas of the wallpaper, leaving color only on the relief. 3. Experiment with glaze by adding water to the material before applying it to the board. This will lighten the color and the texture (figure C). 4. Wipe the excess away.
