Patching Ceiling Holes
1. For small holes, you can do a "blow-out" patch. Make a template out of drywall, which is slightly larger than the hole (figure A). Trace around the template, then use a jab saw to cut along the lines (figure B).
2. Cut another piece of drywall about two inches larger on each side. Flip the larger piece over, set the small piece in the center and trace around it (figure C). Score the lines, then snap the pieces and break off the drywall, leaving just the drywall paper around the perimeter of the square.
3. Apply joint compound around the opening of the hole and set the patch in the hole (figure D). Press the paper to the ceiling and smooth it out.
