    pry bar
    reciprocating saw
    pocket door frame
    impact driver

    Pocket Door Frame

    1. Draw a level line where the cuts are going to be made (figure A). Save the drywall above the door height so as not to damage the textured ceiling.

    2. Score the line once with the utiltity knife, then dig deeper into the drywall the second time through (figure B).

    3. Remove all of the trim with a pry bar and hammer (figure C).

    4. With the claw end of a hammer, punch a line across the wall and pull the rock off one piece at a time (figure D).

    5. Remove any electrical wiring (figure E).

    6. With a reciprocating saw, start cutting the studs out of the wall (figure F).

    7. Remove the framing header that comes attached to the pocket door frame (figure G). Using an impact driver, attach it to the top of the frame with 2" drywall screws (figure H).

    8. Dry fit the frame until you have the perfect fit. Determine where the frame is plumb and attach it to the studs with drywall screws (figure I).

    9. To make up the space between the frame and the top plate, place a few composite shims. Then, drive screws through the door rail, shims and into the top plate, firmly securing the doorframe (figure J).
