    Vent Preparation

    1. Determine location of range so the vent can be centered above it. Draw lines on wall up to soffitt using a level as a straight edge (figure A). Transfer the marks to the underside of the soffitt with a speed square.

    2. Score the lines with a utility knife then break out the center with a hammer (figure B). Break off the drywall to the lines (figure C). Use a reciprocating saw to cut the metal corner bead.

    3. Find and mark center in the joist cavity, then drill through to the outside to mark the location of the wall cap on the exterior (figure D). Leave drill in hole and go outside.

    4. Center the vent pipe around the drill bit and trace the diameter (figure E).

    5. Drill a pilot hole with a spade bit, then cut out the opening with a reciprocating saw (figure F).

    6. Wipe down the siding with a cloth so you have a clean, dry surface to adhere the vent to (figure G).

    7. Put a bead of exterior silicone caulk on the vent cap and place it in the hole. Secure the cap with screws in each corner (figure H).

    8. Secure the frame for the vent to the ceiling studs with a framing nailer, then reinforce the frame with 3" wood screws (figure I).

    Vent Hood Installation

    1. Lift vent into place and secure with provided bolts (figure J).

    2. Check for level and add shims as needed.

    3. Add spray foam to insulate and seal the gaps between the wall cap and the shell of the house.

    4. Add 6" round duct and secure it with tape. Piece together the elbow and damper and attach to the duct (figure K). Add elbows and ducting until you get to the wall cap (figure L).

    5. Fish wires down to the electrical box, then make the proper connections.
