    Crown molding

    1. Place the first piece in place at a 45 degree angle and mark the bottom edge of the molding.

    2. Measure the distance from the ceiling down to the mark (figure K). Transfer those measurements to the other corners of the room.

    3. Snap a straight chalk line. Then snap lines lengthwise across the room (figure L).

    4. Use a hammer and a chisel to chip off the old corner bead pieces. This allows the new molding pieces to meet flush in the corners of the room (figure M).

    5. Trim off a tiny piece from the end, and use a nailer to attach the molding to the wall.

    6. Keep the piece straight against the chalk line and flush against the corner where the walls meet.

    7. Overlap the joints so that the patterns match up (figure N).
