    Materials:

    tape measure
    miter saw
    framing nailer
    hammer
    wood screws
    drill/driver
    drywall screws
    finish nailer
    shims

    Wall Framing

    1. Determine the location of the studs in the wall by using a stud finder.

    2. Once you have located the stud, mark the area where the new wall frame can be attached to the walls (figure A).

    3. Cut the framing members, paying attention to cut the floor or seal plate only partially so the rest can be removed when the framing is done.

    4. Install the framing members starting from the outside and working in (figure B), paying special attention to plumb and level on the door framing.

    5. Cut and install the drywall.

    6. Use drywall tape and mud to texture the walls.

    Sliding Door

    1. Install the new door assembly (figure C), leveling it up using shims.

    2. Make adjustments if necessary to ensure doors open and close properly using shims.

    3. Once everything is plumb, secure frame permanently with screws.

    4. Trim the shims so that they are flush with the wall, using a utility knife to score them.

    5. Measure opening for new trim details and cut trim.

    6. Attach trim to door opening using a small pneumatic nailer.

    7. Attach detailed/finish trim as desired.

    8. The finished product looks great (figure D)!
