Ceiling Acoustic Panels
1. Use 1/8-inch Lauan to create an acoustical island-mounting base for a semi-permanent mounting.
2. Cut to fit the space.
3. Mount to the ceiling using screws and a drill (figure A). Make sure to hit the studs.
4. Chalk out grid lines with a chalk line to measure out the placement of the acoustic foam panels (figure B).
5. Use the floor to try different arrangements of the panels to make sure they are aesthetically pleasing before mounting to the ceiling (figure C).
6. Once a pattern is decided on, turn the panels over and number them to help remember the design when mounting them.
7. Apply a quick-grabbing panel adhesive to mount them to the Lauan island (figure D).
8. Use the grid lines and numbering system to mount each panel.
9. Start with the middle row and hold each panel in place until the glue grabs onto the island.
10. Continue in the same manner with each panel (figure E).
Wall Acoustic Panels
1. Again, use the 1/8-inch Lauan cut to the size that the wall-mounted acoustical tiles will cover.
2. These are placed on the walls to keep sound from bouncing off them. They may be mounted anywhere. Choose aesthetically pleasing and practical mounting locations.
3. Secure the plywood to the wall and through the wall studs using screws.
4. Apply construction adhesive and mount the acoustical tiles to the Lauan (figure F).
