Floating Floor and Soundproof Wall Installation

    1. First, remove the sill plate with a reciprocating saw (figure A).

    2. Once the floor space is measured, cut out a piece of carpet pad to match (figure B).

    3. Cut the 2x3 stock to length to create the floating floor.

    4. Lay down the 2x3 frame in space. A floating floor keeps down sound vibration (figure C).

    5. With a sheet of 5/8 inch thick MDF, cut a piece to proper dimension to create the floor (figure D).

    6. Next using a hole saw, cut a 2-1/2 inch hole through the wall (figure E). Insert PVC pipe and insulation with foam sealant (figure F).

    7. Also, with the framing exposed, install two electrical junction boxes (figure G).

    8. Using a vinyl sheeting, weave between the studs and secure with screws and washers every four inches (figure H).

    9. Now, cover the walls with drywall (figure I). Secure the sheets with studs to the wall.

    10. To finish off the wall, tape and cover the screw heads and seams with joint compound.

    11. Sand the newly dried joint compound between two coats, and then add a topping compound (figure J).

    12. With the dry wall in place, prime the interior with primer.
