    Materials:

    Plexiglas sheets
    MDF stock
    blue tape
    table saw
    2x4 stud stock
    reciprocating saw
    hand drill
    pencil

    Window Installation

    1. With the space of the new window mapped, use a reciprocating saw to cut away the drywall (figure A).

    2. Cut the drywall on one side and then the other.

    3. Re-frame the space where the old stud used to be with 2x4s (figure B).

    4. The window to be installed is one for sound booths. For instance, it has two pieces of Plexiglas and the glass will be angled so that sound waves travel down.

    5. Cut out the four sides of the window frame from pine jamb stock. Assemble the case of the window (figure C). Then, cut out MDF stops for the window case where the Plexiglas will sit (figure D).

    6. Angle the stops to provide the proper tilt angle. Use a nail gun to secure them in place.

    7. Pull the protective covering off the Plexiglas and clean both surfaces (figure E).

    8. Apply silicone glue to the stops, to create an air tight seal, and then set in the Plexiglas. Attach the stops with a nail gun. Install the next sheet the exact same way. Install a 1/8 inch sheet on one side and a 1/4 inch sheet on the other side. The theory is that the varying sheets will provide an additional amount of sound buffering (figure F).

    9. Once the window is in place, shim it square with 2-1/2 inch nails into the rough framing (figure G).

    10. Apply trim around the window to cover the gap (figure H).

    11. To cut Plexiglas, apply a strip of blue tape to the glass to prevent it from cracking (figure I). Now, the Plexiglas is ready to be cut at the table saw (figure J).

    12. Use a jig saw to cut the opening in the door (figure K). Slide in the glass, attach the stops, and it is all ready to go (figure L).
