Wall-mounted Hinged Workout Table
1. Use 5/8-inch thick plywood and cut out two pieces to the appropriate measurements for the exercise table (figure A).
2. Cut out pieces from 2x2 stock to make the supporting frame (figure B).
3. Edge the plywood table with the 2x2 pieces. Add three 2x2s across the center for added strength and support (figure C).
4. Use vice grips to hold the 2x2 pieces together while screwing them into place.
5. Add a bead of construction glue around the perimeter of the framed table (figure D).
6. Place the second piece of plywood on top of the frame and secure together with screws (figure E).
7. Flip the frame over and install the first piece of plywood using the same method.
8. On the wall, attach a 2x4 support, making sure it is level (figure F).
9. To ensure that the table will be able to hold a lot of weight, use lag bolts to attach the 2x4 to the studs in the wall.
10. Build out a base using 2x4s. Make sure they are level and then screw them together (figure G).
11. Cover the support base with plywood. Screw in place.
12. Line up the table with the support base. Connect them with a piano hinge.
13. Once the hinge is in place, lower the table to a level height and attach a temporary leg (figure H).
14. Then, take measurements for the permanent legs. Measure for each leg individually to take in to account the potential for the floor to not be level.
15. Use folding legs, which can be found at the hardware store, and cut them to the appropriate length using a pipe-cutter (figure I).
16. To use a pipe-cutter, place it on the measured line and rotate it around the leg, tightening it about 1/4 turn with every rotation. Eventually it will cut through.
17. To secure the legs in place, screw them to the bottom of the table (figure J).
18. Apply trim to cover the frame and plywood edges to create a clean and finished edge (figure K).
