Flooring Installation
1. The floor installed is cork. Cork on the bottom and cork on the top, with a waterproof fiberboard in between.
2. First, install a plastic underlayment (figure A). This sheet acts as a vapor barrier and helps keep any moisture from entering the room. The underlayment also helps fill any imperfections in the floor.
3. Overlap the underlayment six inches and use duct tape to secure in place (figure B).
4. Next, lay down the first row of cork flooring (tongue and groove) along the first wall. The tongue and groove snaps together.
5. To help the grooves of the flooring to snap easier, soap the edges with contractor's soap.
6. The second row snaps into place (figure C).
7. Work your way across the floor and gently tap the sections into place using a scrap piece of wood.
8. It took about three hours to lay the floor in the tasting room (figure D).
9. When installing the same flooring in the wine cellar, first lay down a green underlayment. The green underlayment has a high moisture barrier content.
