Laminate Flooring Installation
1. The subfloor is clean, flat and smooth (figure A). Directly onto the subfloor, lay down a layer of plastic sheeting to create a moisture barrier (figure B). Tape the sheeting two inches above the floor.
2. Use duct tape to overlap the edges of the plastic sheeting (figure C).
3. The laminated flooring in this project has a soundproof backing and textured cherry wood finish (figure D). It snaps together by lining up the joints (figure E).
4. When laying planks for the first row, place the plank snug against the spacers (figure F).
5. The spacers help allow for expansion around the perimeter of the floor.
6. Tap the planks together with a hammer. When at the end of the wall, cut the boards to size.
7. Use the cut off pieces to start the next row (figure G). This enables a staggered pattern.
8. When installing the next row, lift the plank at an angle to allow it to set/lock in place (figure H).
9. Gently tap the boards together until the seams lock together (figure I).
10. To save the edges of the flooring boards, use a piece of scrap wood to lock the pieces together. This will help not to damage the tongue or groove with the hammer (figure J).
11. Follow this pattern building a row at a time, cutting the last pieces in the row to fit.
12. It will take a little over two hours to cover the floor half way.
13. Once complete, remove the spacers around the border.
Baseboard Installation
1. To finish the floor, the baseboards are added (figure K).
2. The baseboards cover the plastic sheeting and the gap in the wall.
3. On one side of the room, the baseboard was attached with glue because there was concrete at the base (figure L).
