  • From "Home Transformations"

    Materials:

    drywall
    utility knife
    chalk line level
    cupped head nails
    mud
    self-adhesive tape
    topping compound

    Drywall Installation

    1. The drywall went up easily (figure A). The sheets were secured to the wall studs with screws. The screws were spaced to hit every wall stud.

Tip: Drive the screws into the drywall so it makes a dimple and does not break the surface (figure B). Also, a flush screw will allow for a smoother mudding process later.

    2. On the scaffolding, cover the ceiling with drywall (figure C). With all of the custom cuts, it took almost two days to cover the walls in this project.

    3. On the joints, tape and mud. Use a self-adhesive fiberglass tape (figure D). It makes a great surface to mud, too. Next, mud joints with joint compound (figure E). Go over the joint with a six inch knife, then a 12-inch knife and then go over the dried mud with topping compound. Let the compound sit for 12 hours in between layers.
