    Bench Seat Installation

    1. Cut the bench seat out of 1/2-inch plywood (figure A).

    2. Round over the end with a round over bit in the router (figure B).

    3. To connect the bench seat to the bench, use a continuous piano hinge (figure C). Cut the hinge with a hacksaw.

    4. Install the hinge by drilling pilot holes with a self-centering bit (figure D).

    5. Secure the hinge with brass screws.

    Bench Cushions

    1. First, cut out a piece of 3/8's inch plywood for the back cushion.

    2. For the design we want, the corners need to be round. Trace the base of a can onto the plywood and cut the corners round with a jigsaw (figure E).

    3. Spray upholstery glue onto a piece of thick foam. Use a medium density foam. Then, spray glue onto the plywood form and lay it onto the foam (figure F).

    4. Cut the foam to size.

    5. Spray glue onto the other side of the foam and lay it on top of the cotton batting. The batting will give the cushion its shape. Leave the batting long to overlap it over the wood later (figure G).

    6. Lay the fabric good side down, and then set the foam and wood sandwich on top.

    7. Pull the fabric tight and work your way around the board securing the fabric with staples (figure H).

    8. To compete, trim off the excess material and batting (figure I).

    9. Using Velcro, attach the cushion to the bench.
