  • Family Room: Bench Seat Construction and Marmoleum Flooring Installation
  • From "Home Transformations"
    episode DHTR-203

    (Continued from page 1)

    10. Before the bench is assembled, smooth out the curves with a sander (figure J). Then, use a router to round over the edges. Finally, with 100-grit sandpaper, make the edges smooth to touch.

    11. Assemble the bench. Attach the wall side first with 2-1/2 inch finishing nails. Secure the posts to the wall. To anchor the legs to the floor, use L-brackets with wood screws. Then, drive the bottom portion of the L-bracket in with masonry screws.

    12. Now, cut the panels out of plywood birch stock. Once the panels are in position, the bench starts to take shape (figure K).

    13. Finally, measure for the seat.

    Marmoleum Installation

    1. Use a leveling compound to fill seams and level out uneven areas in the floor (figure L).

    2. Once the compound is dry, remove the excess with a scraper (figure M).

    3. Apply construction adhesive with a trowel. Once in place, roll over the surface with a 100 pound roller to ensure a tight flat bond (figure N).
