    13. Thinset is better to use on flat surfaces because it spreads on thinner and keeps the tiles level.

    14. Once the tiles are in place, clean off the excess (figure L). This is important because the tile could be damaged if the thinset has to be chipped off later.

    15. Next, apply tiles to the upper level of the countertop (figure M).

    16. Allow the tile and mortar a couple of hours to set (figure N).

    17. Once dry, cover the surface with rosin paper and move onto the backsplash.

    1. First, apply a coat of thinset to the wall (figure O).

    2. Since mortar sets up fast, be proactive. We laid out the design of the backsplash on a board that was the same dimension as the backsplash (figure P).

    3. Apply thinset mortar onto each piece of glass and set it in place (figure Q).
