Fireplace Surround Installation
1. Remove old fireplace mantel (if applicable).
2. Ensure surface is smooth and free from dust and debris.
3. Dry fit mantel (figure A).
4. Ensure legs are plum.
5. Level mantel.
6. Check that sufficient space exists between fireplace opening and surround. (Subject to local building and fire codes).
7. Use a pencil to mark a line on the wall to use as a guide when installing mantel surround (figure B).
8. Take mantel down and verify with 6' level that links are plum and level.
9. Using a utility knife, cut grooves into the wall where the legs and mantel will fit (figure C).
10. Use construction adhesive (figure D). With a 1⁄4" opening in tip of tube, apply to one leg.
11. Press firmly against wall and floor (hearth) ensuring leg is aligned with plum line (figure E).
12. Repeat process for second leg and allow time to dry.
13. Apply adhesive to top of both legs.
14. Apply adhesive to mantel back.
15. Lift mantel into place and press firmly to wall and down on legs (figure F).
16. Check for level (figure G).
17. Allow time to dry approximately 24-48 hrs.
18. Use sanded caulk and apply a 1⁄8" bead where mantel and legs meet wall (figure H).
19. Wipe with a wet finger to ensure a smooth bead.
20. Wipe wall and mantel clean with a damp sponge.
