Originally, this was a regular closet door...

but there is nothing regular about it now.

This bookcase door holds all sorts of stuff, and can easily be opened by children.

    Installing the Bookcase Door

    1. Install the pivot hardware (figure A). Use a cordless drill with the screws that were supplied with the kit.

    2. Mark the studs above the closet because you will need to nail the valance into the studs after the unit is in place (figure B).

    3. Measure up at least 88 inches because the height of the bookcase and the valance together are 86 inches and you want to see the marks after the bookcase is in place.

    4. Use a studfinder to mark studs (figure C).

    5. Lift the bookcase into place, making sure that the pivot brackets on the bookcase match up with the pivot bushing on the threshold (figure D).

    6. To attach the valance, make sure to use spacers provided with the kit to avoid the valance from rubbing up against the bookcase when the door is opened (figure E). Once the pivot brackets are lined up, hammer them into place (figure F).

    7. Secure the valance to the wall (figure G). Make pilot holes below the marking on the studs, then screw the valance to the wall.

    8. Never attach the valance with drywall anchors, you must securely attach the valance to wall studs above the door.
