When you're working with a jointer, it's wise to use a hold-down pusher to keep the work piece in close contact with the table and your hands away from the blades. Here's how to make a hold-down pusher for use with your jointer: Materials:
Screwdriver Six dry-wall screws 2" x 5" x 3/4" piece of wood for base Two 2" x 2" x 3/4" blocks of wood for sides 1/4"-thick scrap piece of plywood 1" x 5" x 3/4"" piece of wood for handle - Screw one of the blocks flush to one side of the base (figure A).
- Place the 1/4" plywood under the base. Line up the second block so that it's flush with the bottom of the plywood (figure B). Screw the square block into place on the base so that it hangs 1/4" below the base (figure C). This 1/4" of wood will act as a lip to push the work piece through the blade.
- Screw the handle to the tops of the square blocks (figure D).
