Why did you get involved with this project? We have been transforming lives for 40 years. This project is a reflection of the work we do each day to help people overcome the tragedies that are often overlooked. We are a company founded on helping people.
What did you have to overcome to accomplish this project?
Finding labor in the New Orleans area has been a challenge. Many property owners have been unable to find good contractors to complete their projects. Fortunately, our network of contacts allowed us the opportunity to bring in resources from other parts of the country to complete this project.
The permit process overall was fairly easy. The city understood the time limits and worked with us to secure the necessary permits to rebuild the home in a timely manner. The most difficult challenge was getting the city to condemn the house. The other major obstacle was meeting the new codes required for reconstruction in this area.
The house was actually completed in 11 days. The project would have been completed in six or seven days, but television production slowed the rebuilding process. Working around the television crews and schedule was an interesting and sometimes challenging process. We often had to stop production because we were ahead of filming. This is certainly something we were not familiar with.
With the filming delays, the project did come in slightly over budget. Our original schedule and budget would have been very accurate without any interruptions.
Overall, what was your take on the experience?
It was a fun project. Our guys enjoyed working with the television production crew. Amy and Karl jumped in and helped every step of the way. It was a true team effort.
The job required a tremendous amount of effort and resources, but to see the look on Ms. Camp's face was worth every moment. We were thrilled to work with DIY to make this project a reality. We are very pleased that DIY asked Paul Davis Restoration to be their partners in creating a new future for Ms. Camp and her family.
