  • From "Assembly Required"
    episode DASR-201

Meet Al Cobb, SIP builder extraordinaire. Al builds structural insulated panel houses all over the country, and has been working with SIPs for eighteen years. So when Virginia residents, Kate and Brian Downs set out to build a 2600 square foot, bungalow-style SIP home by themselves, they called on Al to act as a consultant.

The panels were much heavier than either of them had predicted...a four foot by four foot panel weighed in at almost 350 pounds. But in less than two weeks, the couple set all 70 wall panels by themselves. When it came time to assemble the roof, the Downs' brought in the professional...Al Cobb. Together with Kate and Brian, they put up the roof in record time. All 42 panels were set in one day!
