An electric wench serves as a "launching" device for this glider. Although remotely controlled, the glider's flight depends on air currents to soar gracefully.

Hobbyist Howard Hulin turned to building and flying radio-controlled gliders after being told that he was too tall for the Air Force pilot program. Gliders allow Hulin to indulge his passion for aeronatics without ever leaving the ground. Although Hulin doesn't often use kits, he says they aid beginners in building techniques and learning flight theory. A beginner's kit can be purchased for less than $100. Building gliders is a precise exercise: the smallest error in calculation can affect a glider's ability to fly properly. Hulin advises following manufacturer's instructions exactly, and he suggests a visit to the local hobby shop for more advice on getting started.
