Neither lost nor forgotten: A younger generation of singers continues the tradition of the barbershop quartet.
|
The members of Metropolis -- a modern barbershop quartet -- live 90 miles apart but have committed to weekly rehearsals to prepare for performances and competition. All the members are young -- proof that barbershop isn't just music for the older generation. In fact, leader Mark McGhee started singing with barbershop quartets when he was only 13 years old! To successfully produce the blend found only in barbershop-style singing, the group says, the melody must be sung higher than the harmony.
