Coffee Liqueur

Cathie Filian and Steve Piacenza make homemade coffee liqueur.

Coffee Liqueur

Materials:

quart jars
10 tsps. instant coffee
3 c. vodka
3 c. sugar
3 c. water
2 tsps. vanilla extract
large saucepan and stove

1. Wash the jars and lids in hot soapy water to sterilize them.

2. Combine sugar and water in the large saucepan (figure A). Make a simple syrup by simmering until the sugar has dissolved, then continue to heat the mixture for five minutes.

3. Turn off the heat and add the coffee (figure B); stir until completely dissolved and add the vanilla (figure C).

4. Allow mixture to cool for approximately 30 minutes. When cool, add the vodka (figure D).

5. Pour cooled liqueur into the clean jars and seal (figure E). Store in the refrigerator.
