  • Home Repair Quick Tip: Mixing Concrete
  • From "Ask DIY"
    episode ADI-404
    advertisement

If you've ever mixed concrete, you know it's not the world's easiest job. If you're doing a small job that involves concrete, however, it's important to get the mix just right to give the proper strength for the type of project you're doing. Here's a tip to help you test your concrete mix for your next job.

    • First, dab a little of your mixture onto a board to so that you can clearly see its consistency.

    • Try to cut some ridges in the mixture with a trowel. If the mix is too loose for the ridges to hold their shape, then the mixture is too wet and you'll need to add some more concrete to the mix. If, on the other hand, it's too dry and lumpy to make ridges at all, you'll need to add more water.

    • Keep adjusting your mix until the ridges hold their shape, and you can't see much water in the mix. At that point, you should have the mix just right.
