Cabinets made from drums, a guitar case with shelves, and a custom-made table fill an empty kitchen with function and character.
Kitchen CabinetsOld stereo speakers get a face-lift and hang on the wall as cabinets.
Materials:6 speakers in 3 different sizes black and silver paint plywood or MDF shelving brackets hardware router table saw screw gun painting supplies
1. Open up the backs of the speakers (figure A), and then remove the speaker equipment.2. Cut the plywood to approximately 4' x 3' high to serve as a backer board. 3. Rout the edges, and then paint. 4. Layout the speakers on the backer board in a desired location, and then mark the spot. 5. Cut off the front of the speaker using a table saw to make doors. Note: If desiredreplace the material in the front of the speaker with Plexiglas. Cut the Plexiglas to size, and then build a frame and place the Plexiglas between the cabinet and the frame. 6. Cut the shelves for the larger speaker cases, and then attach them using corner brackets.
7. Hinge the doors to the speakers (figure B). 8. Paint the speakers. 9. Attach the speakers to the backer board using shelving brackets. Project Expense: Speakers: Free Wood: $20 Plexiglas: $18 Materials: $22 Total: $60
