Habitat for Humanity volunteers from around the globe traveled to communities that had been devastated by the Indian Ocean tsunami in December 2004. Among the recipients of new homes were Michel, a fisherman; his wife, Vivitha; and their five children, of the small fishing village of Kuttapuly, India. Their new home will keep out not only the elements but also, says Michel, snakes, scorpions and other venomous native fauna; and for the first time, the children will be able to do their homework under their own roof, thanks to the electricity that the family had only dreamed of until now.
