The Musicians' Village, conceived by New Orleans natives Harry Connick Jr. and Branford Marsalis, will consist of 81 Habitat-constructed homes for Katrina-displaced musicians. The homes will be built to withstand future storms: In the first phase pilings are dropped 35 feet into the ground. When the site was being evaluated for rebuilding, the flood map was consulted and the level for the area was found to be approximately three-and-a-half feet, so next, five-foot-tall steel-reinforced piers (at right in photo) are added.
