Roof Over Your Head: Custom-made Gutters From "Home IQ" episode DHIQ-106

Another important way to control rain flow is by the use of gutters. The gutters for the Oberg's home are custom made on site. Find out how they are made and installed.

Custom Making Gutters

• A quality roofing company will fabricate the gutters (figure A) on-site, which is a little more expensive but the quality is better because the gutters are custom made.

• The gutter-maker is thread with the color of aluminum that the Obergs picked out, and through a series of mechanical forms (figure B) the material is bent to the desired shape and cut "exactly" to length.

• Each section of roof eave is custom fit, each corner mitered (figure C) and then the two pieces are glued and screwed together. A silicone caulk is used to keep the gutter from leaking. The ends are capped and then the gutter is ready to install.
