Phase 1: Design, Demolition and Digging in the DirtDerek and Dean have always appreciated the work of firefighters. With the opportunity to revamp the dilapidated backyard of a local Massachusetts firehouse, they find a way to show that appreciation in a Rock Solid way. The space they're dealing with is intended as a grilling spot and a place for the firemen to relax. However, at the outset of this project, it's so buried beneath junk and weeds (figures A and B) that no one wants to spend time there . Dean and Derek's solution is to clear out the area, install a circular patio of concrete pavers, and add a stone walkway and grilling area. In this project, Dean and Derek rescue a firehouse by turning an unsightly and rarely used area into a welcoming backyard and patio.
