With the wall and cabinetry close to completion, Michelle and Ryan run cables for the surround system and install the mounts for the new speakers.
Mounting the SpeakersSteps: - Begin by drilling holes in the floor (figure K), drilling down into the basement where the cables will run along the ceiling.
- When pulling the speaker wires through (figure L), make sure you have enough slack to reach the back speakers.
- Once you've chosen a spot on the wall to mount the speakers, drill a hole slightly larger than what you need. This will make fishing the wire through a lot easier.
Tip: Bind the cable to a fishing pole with electrician's tape when feeding the cable from the basement to the living room above to make things easier.Utilize the template pattern to help mount the speakers. Using the attached level (figure M), hold the template up against the wall, over the drilled hole and mark the spot for the screws.Drive the screws into the wall in the marked spots, but don't screw them in all the way (figure N). The screw heads need to be far enough from the wall to lock snugly into the keyhole mounts snugly.
To hide the large hole, these speakers come with a cover plate that fits into the mount (figure O). Once you fit them into place, strip each of the color coded leads (figure P) then lock them into the appropriate terminals in the back of the speaker.Attach the speaker cover and test your new speakers out.
