  • Lighting It Up: Decorative Lights Installed
  • From "Home IQ"
    episode DHIQ-121

Now that the switches, plugs, receptacles and overhead cams are where they're suppose to be, the real fun can begin -- the installation of the lights, including our homeowners' (Brad and Lynn Oberg) beautiful decorative lighting.

Let's take a tour of some of the lighting:

    • Here's (figure A) one of the several sconces places throughout the Oberg home.

    • Check out this unique and eye-catching selection (figure B) for the kitchen.

    • In one of the daughter's (Amanda) room we have this fun choice (figure C), which took almost three hours to find and costs more than nearly all the other lights on the second floor combined.

    • But one of Lynn's favorite choices is the chandelier (figure D) in the dining room, which is a smaller version of the one in the entrance way.

    • Here's a great view into the living room, with three wall lights (figure E).

    • And the piece-de-resistance is the grand chandelier (figure F) in the foyer. Since this is the focal point from the street, the front porch and anywhere in the foyer, the placement was crucial.

Note: Lighting for new homes usually works with the contractor giving the homeowners a lighting allowance, and the homeowners have to pay for any overage. Brad and Lynn went approximately $3,000 over the budgeted allotment.

In the final segment of our "Lighting It Up" episode, the state-of-the-art lighting system is installed and showcased.
