Problem: Human Error

One of the biggest setbacks our homeowners (Brad and Lynn Oberg) experienced during the construction of their custom home was a problem that was caused by simple human error on the blueprints.

During the framing process (figure A) one of the carpenters discovered that a wall built according to spec on the blueprint was, in actuality, too big. To figure out where the problem occurred, Greg Allen (the site supervisor) checked the measurements or each and every detail across front of the house.

Problem: New Technologies

Another error that occurred during the construction of the Oberg home wasn't due to human error -- but from new technologies. When the tile setters show up to set the tiles, they discovered several places where the floor moves. This is due to the new technology product: SpaceJoist®, which our site supervisor had never worked with before. The new joists had caused the strongback (figure B) to be compromised.

Lesson Learned: The lesson learned here is that new technologies can cause delays in constructions until the site supervisor and subcontractors can get up to speed on the particulars of the product.
