Important: Following is a summary overview of the steps in the ceiling fan installation, as seen in the demonstration in DIY's Blog Cabin. Depending on the type and brand of product selected, specific installation steps may vary. Steps:

    • When selecting a fan, remember to keep the location (indoor/outdoor) and room size (low ceilings/ high ceilings) in mind.

Important: Be sure to install the fan at least seven feet from the floor and twenty four inches from the wall.

    • Feed the existing circuit cable through the mounting plate included in the fan kit (figure A).

Note: The mounting plate usually has different hole options to feed the cable through so that optimum fan placement can be achieved.

    • Use a screwdriver to secure the mounting plate in place with the screws provided in the kit (figure B).

    • Use a utility knife to cut through the circuit cable and expose circuit wires (figure C).

    • Attach the included mounting hook to the mounting plate (figure D).

    • Lift the fan and place on the mounting hook, letting go only when the fan is securely hooked in place.

    • Connect each circuit wire to the corresponding wire lead from the fan (figure E).

    • Trim wires as needed and cap each connection with a wire connector.

    • If the fan comes with a remote control, hook up the remote base to the circuit wires (figure F).

    • To finish up, follow the manufacturer's instructions to install any of your fan's decorative features.

    • Add light bulbs.
