    Installing Kitchen Cabinets

    1. Measure your kitchen (figure A), decide on the layout of the cabinets and choose new cabinets.

    • Note : Consider plumbing and electrical outlets when deciding on the layout (figure B).

    2. Measure your new cabinets to make sure they will fit into the layout you designed.

    3. Begin by placing upper corner cabinet on a cabinet jack (figure C).

    4. Allow enough space between upper and lower cabinets, by measuring the lower cabinet and adding 19 inches to it, accounting for space and countertop height.

    5. Check the cabinet for level and drill corner cabinet to the wall using wood screws (figures D and E).

    • Note : Screws need to be long enough to go through the cabinet back and wall.
    • Note : Place the screws in the least noticeable spot.

    6. Place an adjacent upper cabinet.

    7. Check for level.

    8. On face frame cabinets, drill pilot holes through the sides and use screws to adjoin neighboring cabinets together (figure F).

    9. Drill adjoining cabinet to the wall (figure G).

    9. Install remaining upper cabinets in this same way.

    10. With the upper cabinet installation complete, install lower cabinets starting at the high point of the floor.

    • Note : This is usually the bottom corner cabinet or end base cabinet.

    11. Check for level front to back and side to side and screw through the cabinet back and the wall.

    12. If necessary, shim bottom cabinets up to the high point (figure H), so that all bottom cabinets are level, and then drill into place.

    13. Continue attaching all bottom cabinets as you did with uppers, making sure to attach adjoining cabinets together (figures I and J).
