    Steps:

    1. Determine the measurements of the window seat area (figure A). This will provide measurements for the frame, which is dependant on the size of the window and the height you want it to sit at.

    • Note: Generally 2 to 3 inches below the window height works best for the height of a window seat.

    2. After measuring, cut your 2x4s to the measurements you calculated in step one (figure B).

    3. Attach the 2x4s to the area under the window, using a power drill and screws (figure C). Be sure to check for level at each piece (figure D).

    4. Next, measure (figure E) and cut your plywood front and top based on the measurements of your area and cut with a table saw.

    5. Place plywood façade and secure with nails and a nail gun.

    6. For the hatch top, cut the plywood for the area’s measurement, but leave 3 inches at the hinge for a proper angle on the top.

    • Note: The hatch top will sit past a 90 degree angle so it won’t fall down while anyone is looking inside.

    7. Drill your piano hinge on the plywood hatch top.

    8. For a decorative touch, nail bark to the plywood front with nails and a nail gun.

    9. Adhere tongue-and-groove panels (figure F) to the plywood top with glue and finishing nails.

    10. Place the hatch top and attach it to the base, screwing the other side of the hinge to the 2x4 frame (figure G).
